Safeguarding at DMVC

We are a choir with a long habit of looking out for one another, and that care extends to everyone who sings with us and everyone who comes to hear us. This page explains, simply, who to talk to if you are ever worried about the safety or wellbeing of a child or an adult, and what happens next.

You can raise something large or small. If you are unsure whether it matters, please tell us anyway. It is always better to ask.

What happens if you raise a concern

We will listen, take you seriously, and treat what you tell us with care. We will keep it to those who need to know. We will make a brief record, and where a concern is serious we will pass it to the local authority safeguarding service, who have the responsibility and the training to look into it. It is not our place to decide whether someone has been harmed. Our part is to notice, to respond kindly, and to make sure a concern reaches the right hands.

Children at our concerts

Children are welcome at our concerts in the company of their families or their carers, who remain responsible for them. We do not run separate activities for children, so our arrangements are simple: a warm welcome and a reasonable duty of care.

Care for one another

The same watchfulness applies within the choir itself. Many of our members have sung together for years, and several are now well into later life. Looking out for a friend who has become frail, isolated or troubled is part of what we already do, and it is part of safeguarding too.
